Introduction:
Put your most important information at the top of the release. Editors edit releases from the bottom up to fit the space they have. DogGroomers.com usually doesn't have this issue, since we publish to less expensive 'Web pages. It helps your readers who scan information before diving in for a good read.
The DogGroomers.com press release template follows this style and will help you to write a well-crafted release.
Put the words 'FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE' in uppercase and all bold at the top of the page. Write 'FOR RELEASE ON ______ with the appropriate date' if you don't want your information released the same day you send the press release.
Put the media contact information under the release date information. This should include a media contact person, direct telephone number, extension, fax, Web site address and e-mail address.
Use an attention-grabbing headline - no more than two lines, centered on the page. Remember that many people scan headlines before reading the releases. Load it with key words. This also helps search engines find your release.
Under the headline put the city your company is located in followed by the date:
Santa Barbara, CA - January 1, 2001 - and then begin your first paragraph.
The first paragraph, is the most important part of a press release. This 'lead' paragraph should be short, including the 5 Ws of journalism: Who, What, When, Where and Why.
Include a quote from an executive of your company after the lead paragraph. This quote adds credibility and human interest. Include quotes from major customers or vendors in the next paragraph, as needed.
The next paragraphs include more information, such as features, pricing, dates, etc. Bullet lists are ok to use. Be clear and concise.
Conclude your release with information about your company. Where it is located, what industry you are involved in, what your products are, what awards you have won, etc. Include company contact information such as mail, telephone and fax numbers, e-mail address and Web site address.
The contact info style may look like this:
