Importance of Client Testimonials

Dog GroomerClient testimonials are a part of any business, but they are especially important for professional dog groomers. Dog grooming is a very personal business. Clients are interested in the quality of grooming, but they are often more concerned with the groomer’s treatment of their pet. Dog owners want to be reassured that the dog groomer they choose will be kind and gentle with their dog, and that their dog won’t be harmed or treated roughly during grooming.

In an industry like dog grooming, aside from word of mouth advertising, client testimonials are the most powerful way to put pet owners at ease and make one’s business attractive.

Getting great client testimonials can be tricky, but here are a few guidelines and suggestions that may help you to get great customer feedback that you will be able to share with others.

First, make a list of clients to approach. Try to focus on those who are most like the clients you would like to work with in the future, and those that continue to return to use your services time after time. Next, make a list of important points to ask them about.

Some examples are:

  • Their prior experiences with other dog groomers
  • Their experience working with you
  • The outcome of doing business with you, such as a calm, well-groomed pet for a reasonable price.

After you have your list, set up a time for a short interview. Record the client with a tape recorder and encourage them to be specific. Listen carefully and patiently, and thank the client when the interview is over. Pick out the important points of the interview, but get final approval from the client before using your finessed version of their words.

You may also do this via email. The most important thing, in my opinion, is that you have a written or taped copy of the testimonial in case someone questions it.
